The House of Leyli

Life in War is a 40-episode series currently being developed and written at Dima Creative House.

The stories in this collection take place in a residential building in Ahvaz. The building becomes a shelter for women and the children of front-line soldiers during the eight-year Iran–Iraq War. They choose to live here instead of leaving the city, hoping to stay closer to their husbands and maintain a sense of safety and togetherness.

Each resident brings her own world into this shared space — their children, their worries, their friendships, and the emotional connections that slowly grow between them. Together, they create new forms of community and resilience in the midst of uncertainty.

These narratives explore love, fear, longing, anxiety, loss, hope, and the everyday heroism of women whose lives are shaped by the distant but ever-present reality of war. The emotional center of the series is the women themselves — their bonds, their private struggles, and the way society’s conditions shift under the shadow of conflict and the absence of their husbands on the front lines.

The series is being written at Dima’s screenwriting studio under the supervision of Masoumeh Yazdani, with contributions from writers Zehra Shahi, Zeinab Khosroshahi, and Reyhaneh Azizi.
